The Hawaiian Bracelect

Aloha Gold Bracelet02                                 Mother's Day. Graduation. Wedding Anniversary. A birth of a child. There are many ways to celebrate and honor these special days, but for women in Hawaii, nothing really says it like a gift of a unique Hawaiian bracelet.
Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry in the Lanihau Shopping Center, is Hawaii's largest manufacturer of Hawaiian Jewelry and has five stores around the state. They have been in business for over 32 years.

"Bracelets are part of the culture. Visitors see local people wearing the bracelets and they want their own Hawaiian bracelet. We offer quality bracelets at a great price," said Judi Ferguson, manager of Royal Hawaiian Heritage.

The history of Hawaiian heirloom jewelry goes back to England during the Victorian Era, when Queen Kapiolani and Princess Liliuokalani attended Queen Victoria's Jubilee in 1887. While there, they were given solid gold bracelets with their names cut out in Old English lettering filled with black enamel. The Queen and Princess loved the gifts so much they had similar bracelets for other Royalty and a legacy was created and it lives on through the culture.

Ferguson shared that bracelets are often passed on through the generations of families, which make the bracelets extra special. "It's not just a gold bracelet, people share and open up their hearts when they are getting a bracelet. Sometimes it's a happy occasion or sometimes sad, but it is unbelievable to be able to share in these moments with them."

Bracelets come in medium, heavy, and extra heavy weight and a range of widths from 6mm-18 mm. People can put their Hawaiian name, a child's name or anything they choose. There are also a variety of designs that can be engraved around the custom-made bracelets. They range from flowers, turtles, or dolphins or practically anything you dream of!

The average time frame for a bracelet to be made is between four and five weeks so if you are looking to give a gift this Christmas that is extra special head into Royal Hawaiian Heritage today!

Her little eyes beamed up at her mother as she pointed excitedly saying "That one! That one!" She turned to the manager and said that she had been dancing hula for a year and that her parents were buying her a Hawaiian bracelet. The story of this little girl shows exactly her pride in the Hawaiian Culture because she now has a bracelet of her own.

Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park

Established in 1978 for the preservation, protection and interpretation of traditional native Hawaiian activities and culture, Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park is an 1160-acre park full of incredible cultural and historical significance. It is the site of an ancient Hawaiian settlement, which encompasses portions of four different ahupua'a, or traditional sea to mountain land divisions. Resources include fishponds, kahua (house site platforms), ki'i pohaku (petroglyphs), holua (stone slide), and heiau (religious site).

Kaloko-Honokohau also offers some exceptional natural and scenic attractions. The park's ponds are unique wetlands offering not only rare breeding habitat for endangered coots and stilts, and the wetlands are home to a variety of wintering birds.  The park has an excellent and accessible marine reef (used daily by several dive boat operators) and with easy shoreline access to beaches, tide pools, unusual alkaline pools, and a fine sample of Hawaii's scenic Kona Coast.  The historic Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail traverses the park.
